Skype Federation

Small-to-medium size organizations around the world have embraced Skype as their number one platform for business communications and collaboration. However, Skype is a “Walled Gardened” environment, and most UC platforms do not provide the ability to chat with users on the Skype network. Consequently, your end-user community is pushing for having Skype on their laptops and mobile devices.

This can cause sleepless nights for your security department since they have to open firewalls and modify security rules to allow Skype traffic on your corporate network. In the process you could potentially expose your company to security risks such as spam, phishing, viruses and malware, and Skype consumes valuable network bandwidth.

The NextPlane UC Exchange Skype Federation Service supports a wide range of UC platforms including Cisco WebEx Messenger, Unified Presence Server (CUPS), and Jabber XCP; Unify (formerly Siemens Enterprise Communications) OpenScape; IBM Sametime; Google Apps; OpenFire; and Microsoft Office 365, Lync 2013 and 2010, OCS 2007 R1 and R2 – to name a few.
